The Tale of the Shepherd Boy

In the heart of the captivating rolling meadows, lived a shepherd boy. His life was essentially untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was mainly to care for his herd of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the wind across the single tree on the peak were his constant companions. Day in day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a notion of tranquil contentment.

However, there were occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. In one such instance from sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a naughty scheme.

Stories of wild beasts prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a prank on the villagers.

One afternoon he raced into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills for rescue but saw nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This game persisted for a couple of more days. But, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
